B.S. in Biochemistry and Biophysics
Biochemistry and biophysics are closely-related fields, each using tools from a different science discipline to study life. Specifically, Biochemistry studies the chemical processes and transformations in living organisms, while Biophysics applies the theories and methods of physics to questions of biology.
At Rensselaer
This major is run by the Biological Sciences department and the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology. Many of the Biochemistry and Biophysics courses are jointly taught by professors from both departments.
Rensselaer’s Biochemistry and Biophysics undergraduate curriculum includes thorough grounding in mathematics, chemistry, and physics, along with modern biochemistry, biophysics, and molecular-level biology. Courses train you in cutting-edge research approaches.
Your Future
Our graduates are exceptionally well prepared for graduate school and to become desirable employees in the biotechnology industry. The curriculum also provides an excellent background for students planning careers in medicine.
Research and Industrial Experience
Most students pursue undergraduate research in faculty laboratories. Many seek industrial experience through Rensselaer’s Cooperative Education Program.
Curriculum
While rigorous, the undergraduate curriculum offers sufficient flexibility and course choices to allow you to tailor your education.
